One of the fastest ways to up my creativity is to travel. I'm currently traveling the Michigan peninsula. Coming here from Florida in the middle of July my physical senses were immediately activated by the cool temperatures, the greens of the forests and the hiking in elevations. My mental senses have been activated because of the need to think to find restaurants, hotels and directions everywhere. I sometimes feel like a primative man hunting for food and lodging. But it is different from home where I know everything and therefore think less. The greatest boost to my creativity is being in new environments. The unknown around the next corner excites my wonder and the beauty of the land puts me in a state of awe. Mark Twain stated, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” No truer words have been said.
